Livorno is the most important port city in Tuscany. Situated on the Mar Ligure, it is 20 kilometres far from Pisa and 100 km from Florence.

Getting to and from the port

By car
The port of Livorno is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Florence by car. From the A12 Genoa-Livorno-Rosignano motorway, take the "Livorno" exit as well as from the A11-A12 Florence-Pisa-Livorno motorway (both are connected to the A1 and, through the A1, to the Brenner Pass). At the exit of the motorway, you must follow the new brown tourist road signs indicating "Passengers boarding". From the car park, it takes 3 minutes to get to the Moby Ferries (Sardinia and Corsica), and 10 minutes to Capraia, while a taxi is required for Grimaldi Sardegna. Keep in mind that the city center is a Limited Traffic Zone.

  By Bus
You can take the bus number one from the train station to the port. Get off the bus at the Piazza Grande and transfer to the number 5 bus to take you right to the entrance of the ferry terminal.

        By Train
The port of Livorno can be reached from Livorno Central Station with a bus to Piazza Grande; from here it is about 10 minutes on foot to reach the Maritime Station.

        By Taxi
Taxis can be useful in two situations: take you to the railway station to travel by train to Florence, Pisa or Lucca, or take you to tour destinations with more complicated public transportation such as Volterra, San Gimignano or Siena. However, if you just want a ride to Livorno's city center, taxis are the most expensive way to get there.
