There are 4 ferry companies operating ferries to and from Dublin. Irish Ferries, Isle of Man Steam Packet, P&O Ferries and Stena Line all operate ferries to and from Dublin. In the summer season, there are a total of 56 sailings per week.

The most popular route in terms of sailings is the route from Holyhead to Dublin with 32 sailings per week.

The port or island closest to Dublin is Holyhead with a distance of 110 kilometres - that's 68 miles or 59 nautical miles. While the port or island furthest away is Liverpool at a distance of 218 kilometres - that's about 135 miles or about 118 nautical miles.

Dublin port is located 2.7 km east of Dublin city center, only a few minutes by car. Buses and taxis provide a regular service from the port to the city and extensive signage on all main roads leading to the port gives clear directions.

With 7.228 ship arrivals and 1.743.565 passengers moved in 2023, Dublin Port is Ireland's largest freight and passenger port, handling almost 50% of all trade in the Republic of Ireland.

The port is a very big port and is generally very busy throughout the whole year.

Island hopping around  Dublin

Four ferry companies operate up to thirteen sailings daily connecting Dublin with Holyhead, Liverpool and Douglas.

Irish Ferries are offering several daily cruise and fast ferry options from Holyhead. The Ulysses carries up to 2,000 passengers on a 3hr 15min crossing. Fast sailings take just under two hours.

Stenaline operates the Stena Adventurer and Stena Estrid between Holyhead and Dublin Port, with four daily sailings each way.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company also connects the Isle of Man to Dublin in just under three hours, while P&O Ferries takes car passengers between Liverpool and Dublin.

Getting to and from the port

By car

Access by car can be made via East Wall Road, North Wall Quay, or the Thomas Clarke Bridge. Dublin Tunnel is situated on the perimeter of the port and provides quick access to the M50 and M1 motorways, the main routes to the North and South of the country. There are plenty of payable parking spaces available at both terminals especially Terminal 1.

By Bus

Dublin port is served by Dublin Bus route 53 which operates from Talbot St. to Irish Ferries at Terminal 1 located on Terminal Road South. The Bus Service to/from Dublin City to Stena Line Terminal 2 operates daily to/from Georges Quay.

By Taxi

Taxis are available outside the port terminals and provide services from the port to the city and beyond.

By Train

There is no direct train link to Dublin Port. The Luas Red Line tram stop at "The Point" operates 7 days a week and is located opposite the entrance to Dublin Port on East Wall Road. The entrance to the Dublin port estate is a 7-minute walk (550m), however, it is a longer walk (45 minutes/3.7km) to the Irish Ferries terminal 1 and a 40-minute walk (3.2km) to the Stena Line ferry terminal 2.
